History

The Riverwalk was conceived in 1990 and dedicated June 13th, 1998. A linear park was established along the Fox River in downtown Batavia providing a center and focal point for community events.

The estimated initial cost of $3.2m came in at $1.3m. This was kept to a minimum through extensive volunteerism (receiving the Governors Award for Volunteerism), fund raising and securing materials at cost or through donations.
